- quality red wine; the receipe appeared as a method to make bad wine taste better, but if you want a good drink, you need good wine; preferably sweeter and bought from a vineyard, because the bottled one contains preservers and stabilisers;
- sugar; this has to be good too; you might try vanilla powder sugar, though i think brown sugar can be also good;
- cinnamon; powder works faster, but it will deposit at the bottom of the cup; sticks are better, but take longer to leave their flavor;
- cloves - just a few
- orange slices - makes it even better! saw this at the Christmas fare in Strasbourg
- almonds & nuts - adds a special taste and you will discover you like to eat something crunchy while drinking.
